Francisco Díaz de León (b. September, 24 1897 in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes – d. Mexico City, December 29, 1975) was a Mexican engraver.

Biography

Díaz de León studied at the Academia de San Carlos and visited the open-air paintings school of Saint Anita in Chimalistac. He was one of the pioneers of modern Mexican engraving. He used techniques and taught like drypoint, etching, aquatint and others. With his concept work in service of the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) he laid the foundation stone of the engraving school, the Escuela de Artes del Libro[1], and was also founding member of the Academia de Artes in 1968.
